Catch Data Systems Development Manager Cindy McIntosh is a relatively new employee, joining the company in February 2011. By joining Catch Data Systems, the Moretown, Vermont, resident was able to trade in her 45 minute-each-way commute for her home office. To her surprise, she has really enjoyed the switch.
“I love working at home,” said Cindy. “I really didn’t think I would enjoy working at home, but I do. Now, I start my work day early and don’t miss that commute at all.”
I have a Master’s degree and 20+ years experience in healthcare industry. Before moving to Catch Data Systems, I worked at IDX/GE Healthcare in a variety of roles. I started in customer support, then installations, consulting, and product development. My experience is primarily with hospital patient access and hospital patient accounting.
The people. I have known several for many years, some as former co-workers; some as my former customers. You don’t always have to agree on how to solve a problem but in the end you find the right solution and move forward… and, you have fun along the way. You share the good days and the bad days together.
Also, no micro-management. You have a project to work on and you do it. We are not bogged down in process, which often happens in bigger companies. If there is a problem or an issue, you bring it up and work together to solve it. I like actually doing the work; rather than meeting about it (or talking about it) endlessly.
I’d say it is probably two things: since I’ve worked in healthcare access and accounting for so long, I understand the environment our customers live in. Nothing is constant, except that things are constantly changing. So, it is a challenging world of trying to balance projects/priorities.
The second thing is my experience. Having done product development, customer support, etc., I can help look at alternatives and think about what makes the most sense, what is a “do now” and what can wait, what are some options to solving a problem. I can talk about and understand what the real problem is. Sometimes the solutions people ask for don’t really get to solving the root problem.
In my opinion, low reimbursement and constantly changing billing rules by the payers. The hoops healthcare providers have to jump through to keep up with each payer creating their own rules for billing and reimbursement are incredible. Right now, they are all working to transition to 5010 claims and remits. Soon, they will be transitioning from ICD-9 to ICD-10 coding which goes into effect October 2013.
By making sure we provide high quality solutions that provide real value. Anytime you can provide a solution which reduces key strokes, alerts users to problems/errors, automates a manual process, you are helping to reduce costs and saving them money.
Working at Catch Data gives me the opportunity to use my knowledge and experience to help our customers. That is the driver for me. Helping to solve a problem; providing a high quality solution that brings the customer a high ROI.
